The Baiman people were skilled at raising monkeys and teaching them to dance for the entertainment of guests. The monkeys learned their lessons well, performing all sorts of tricks, much to the amazement of the guests. However, one monkey refused to dance, which angered the owner who decided to kill it. The monkey said, "Even though I cannot dance, I know about propriety and righteousness. You teach me to dance just to please your guests, but this is not what I wish to do. I would rather die than lose my true nature."
Upon hearing these words, the owner felt remorse and abandoned his intention to kill the monkey. The guests also admired its sense of justice and praised it, saying, "Although this monkey is small, it possesses great righteousness."
